From the south side of Chicago, Marcus tells the story of his fight to build a career in finance. Marcus gained exposure to wealthier families through his soccer experience. Marcus discusses the social-emotional challenge this presented and how it compelled him to push forward. He also discusses his early love of finance. Using his soccer skillset, he navigated his way to college where he ultimately left soccer for a more lucrative career in finance. Marcus also discusses how he uses math in his everyday work.

Career Video Series — Daissy Dominguez

The daughter of Mexican immigrants, hear Daissy's story of how she overcame obstacles like gender discrimination to become a successful Immigration Attorney in Chicago. Daissy discusses the social-emotional impact of being told she could not afford college, and then that she shouldn't pursue being a lawyer by a teacher and a counselor. Despite their critique, Daissy propelled herself forward is now a successful immigration attorney. This video also discusses how she creates arguments, and uses critical thinking in her writing and advocacy.

Veronica grew up the only child of a single mom in Chicago. She discovered a love for writing early on devouring any book her mom brought her way. Veronica discusses the social-emotional challenge of overcoming negative feedback from a teacher who questioned whether or not she authored a paper she wrote. Veronica always loved animation and design, but did not have a lot of talent for drawing. Through an internship, she discovered marketing and brought her love of writing to life.

A son of Mexican immigrants, Marco is a successful entrepreneur and businessman who runs his family's store, Dulcelandia in Chicago. As a kid, Marco was a B, C student, and showed a lot of strength in businesses he created including a lemonade stand franchise. Building his career had a few challenges including a huge academic failure that lead to him being kicked out of college. Marco discusses the social-emotional challenge of overcoming this failure. Working around the clock and enrolling in community college, he ultimately gets back into the college that kicked him out. This video also discusses how he uses math, and technology on a daily basis in his work.
