Our work.

Every child deserves to be seen. Every classroom deserves diverse media.

PicDiversity, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting educators by providing free, diverse digital content for classroom use. We recognize that teachers often spend countless hours creating their own visuals for lesson plans and classroom environments—work that requires both time and artistic skill that many educators simply don’t have to spare.

Our work is to remove that burden by offering a growing library of ready-to-use, high-quality, and inclusive images that reflect the diversity of today’s world. By making these resources freely accessible on our website, we empower teachers to focus on what matters most: inspiring and educating their students.

Through PicDiversity, Inc., classrooms become more engaging, welcoming, and representative—helping every student feel seen and valued.

Vision

Our vision is to bring PicDiversity media to every American classroom to expand the potential children and youth believe they can achieve.

Mission

Collaborate with teachers, artists, and students to create diverse instructional media content and provide it to educators for free classroom use.

Our story.

How it started.

PicDiversity began with a conversation in a pizza parlor. The discussion about representation in educational materials sparked a mission to make teaching visuals more inclusive. This video shows the nonprofit’s first photo shoot, which brought together models of various ethnicities and genders to begin the process of creating diverse and inclusive content for teachers.

In 2015 when this video was created, the nonprofit’s focus was on content creation and a funding campaign to launch an interactive library where teachers voted on their content needs and PicDiversity met them.

Unbeknown to the team at the time, building and launching a searchable database of content would be riddled with challenges. As software developed, and PicDiversity’s stock pile of content grew, these challenges were finally overcome with the launch of the current database in 2019.

A pivot with purpose.

Where we are today.

Since launching our database in 2019, we have grown into a national hub for diverse, inclusive teaching resources. Today, we proudly serve more than 11,000 educator members across all 50 states, supporting them in bringing representation, belonging, and equity into their classrooms.

Our content has been downloaded over 60,000 times, helping students see themselves — and each other — in what they learn. Every download is a step toward a more inclusive and equitable education for all.

While building a searchable database, our founder, Rachel Hanley, realized something important: middle and high school students need to see purpose in their lessons — they need to understand why what they’re learning matters in order to stay engaged.

That insight inspired the creation of our six-part Career Video Series. Each episode features a young professional and explores:

  1. Their personal journey to their current career — including the challenges they overcame

  2. What their job is really like, and what makes them successful

  3. How the lessons taught in school connect to the work they do every day

Our Career Video Series is available now for educators to bring real-world inspiration into their classrooms.
